On today’s show Charlie Cherry, Chris Daniel, and Lori Cherry
talk about a wonderful program that is helping children from all
around the world who have Diabetes.
Spare a Rose, Save a Child is simple: they encourage people to
buy one less rose on Valentine’s Day, and donate the value of that
flower to children with Diabetes. Over the past three years, the
campaign has raised $55,844... providing a year’s worth of
supplies to over 1,000 children. This year, the campaign will run
February 1 until February 14. Their goal is to continue to
provide lifesaving supplies to children in need.
‘SPARE A ROSE…SAVE A CHILD’ supports the ’LIFE FOR A CHILD’ program.
WHAT IS 'LIFE FOR A CHILD'?
'Life for a Child' is an International Diabetes Federation program, with the vision:
NO CHILD SHOULD DIE OF DIABETES
Type 1 Diabetes is a lifelong condition requiring daily insulin
injections, blood glucose monitoring, education and specialist
health care.
Access to this life-saving treatment is often difficult, and
sometimes impossible, to achieve in less-resourced countries.
Without support, many young people die soon after being diagnosed.
Those who survive develop complications, such as eye damage and
kidney failure.
THIS IS WHERE 'LIFE FOR A CHILD' STEPS IN:
We partner with Diabetes centers in lower-income countries, to
provide young people with:
• Insulin and syringes
• Blood glucose monitoring
equipment and test strips
• Clinical care
• HbA1c testing
• Diabetes education,
workshops, camps, resources
• Support for health
