On today’s DiabetesPowerShow, Charlie Cherry, Chris Daniel, and Lori Cherry welcome Doris Hobbs.

Doris Hobbs has a passion for the fashion from a very glamorous time in our history. She loves all things 1940’s and 50’s, especially the new Christian Dior styles from 1947. She brings back this glamour on her website, RichInLoveFashion.com capturing stunning images from the golden age of Hollywood. Doris is thriving with Type One Diabetes.

At age 33, the first thing Doris realized after been diagnosed as a Type One Diabetic, was that she had two options: She could allow it to control her life, or find the unbinding courage from within the tragedy; She chose courage.

The next few days were consumed with perplexed emotions, mostly of denial, pooled from the self-belief that she could be a rare case and mysteriously cured. She was given a new role and lifestyle as a Type One Diabetic. She immediately chose to not wear it as a sympathy garment; instead, she would rather re-fashion how others perceive such a life-altering disorder. Aside from a select group of family and friends that knew of her health struggles, she somehow managed, two days after the news was confirmed, to conduct an on-location photo-shoot for her website, Rich in Love Fashion. She knew, without a doubt, at that moment, she had a purpose on earth, and found herself more determined to not allow Diabetes to hinder her little girl dreams.

We, as a society, have a tendency of suppressing our fears, as mastering those can be difficult, and takes large amounts of will and courage to look in the mirror and say, “I will succeed; I can do this!” The relationship between one’s journey of self-growth and courage tends to evoke feelings of fear, anxiety, and uncertainty, but allowing such emotions to take center stage is moral injustice. At birth, each and every one of us is embedded with a purpose or talent, which provides us the blueprints of our life’s story, which must be written and shared.

“From all of my lessons and blessings in the last 2 1/2 years, I’ve formed an organic sense of how to live an authentic life that channels pure gratitude and glamour”.

Since being diagnosed a Type One Diabetic, Doris has provided media exposure for organizations such as: Beyond Type 1, JDRF, American Diabetes Association, Diabetes Alive, and has been featured on 101.7 KKIQ, 92.1 KKDV, Diabetes Connections, and Diabetes Late Nite for her advocate efforts.
